ABOUT
Design. Digital Media. Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion.
Hello! My name is Harrison Skelton. I am currently a student studying computational media at Georgia Tech. I am a native of Southwest Atlanta, Georgia. My goal is to creatively use art and technology together as a means of effective and engaging communication. My love for art has developed from a young age. As a saxophonist from age 9 and a dancer since age 19, art has always been a outlet whether I am the creator or experiencer. Performing in jazz festivals and dancing on stage is sometimes the only way I can express a message or emotion - and seeing a movie or a painting can make me feel seen in a way I had never felt seen before. Art is a creative way of communication, and technology only makes that experience more accessible and widespread. My love for computer science developed when I first arrived at Georgia Tech. Originally a chemistry major, my first interactions with coding were in a mandatory CS class. I was so intimidated by the subject matter, but after a few weeks of practice I had developed a new passion. Since then, my eyes have been wide open to the endless possibilities of computer science. Both art and Technology are tools of communication that when married together have endless possibilities and wanders!
A lot of my work is also rooted in Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) and mentorship. Growing up, caring for others came naturally through my school, church, and home life. Additionally growing up, I saw the disproportionate amount of care that adversely affected marginalized communities of race, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status, ability, etc. I have since made it my mission to be a caregiver, ally, and fighter for mistreated individuals and communities. As an advocate for DEI, I focus on the presence of diverse perspectives and assessments of intersectional identity; the promotion of justice, impartiality and fairness within the procedures, processes, and distribution of resources by institutions or systems; and the welcoming and consistent inclusion of marginalized peoples and communities. I strive to engage these practices through my work and communication in art and technology as a means of education, advocation, activism, and love.
